At The elbowroom we run Pilates for Pregnancy on a private class basis. This way each mother can get individual attention from the instructor and learn how to work on strengthening both the abdominal muscles and pelvic floor.
Pilates during pregnancy can help reduce the separation that sometimes appears in the stomach muscles after having the baby, and can help strengthen the pelvic floor to reduce any post baby incontinence problems. It can also help if you have back problems before pregnancy or during to protect and strengthen your back.
Pilates in pregnancy has also shown to be helpful in tuning into your pelvic floor muscles. This can be very beneficial during the pushing stage of labour. Especially if you have and epidural and cannot feel the muscles so well, Pilates helps you to get used to feeling them and may assist in the birth of your baby.
