Free activities for little ones at the elbowroom Kids Canteen

As you all know, the elbowroom Kids Canteen at Graze @ the elbowroom is open for business (the business of play!) Monday to Friday from 10.00am until 2.00pm.

We’re delighted to announce that we’ll be hosting some great activities to keep your little people occupied while you actually get to tuck into some amazing food and drink a coffee or tea..while it’s still hot!

There’s space for toddlers to play, and an opportunity for you to relax and chat in a comfortable venue. Pregnant mums, partners, toddlers and grandparents are especially welcome!

Mondays 10.30am – Story Time with Laura

Monday is Storytime in the Kid’s Cafe. Laura facilitates a fun and creative hour of stories and songs, aided by her vast collection of colourful puppets, toys and props – that magically come to life! Storytime is a welcoming and gentle invitation for your little one to participate, learn and most importantly, have fun in an inclusive, warm and friendly atmosphere. Creativity and curiosity are encouraged by Laura’s patient approach and natural affinity with children, with artistry, as well as sensory and kinesthetic play used to bring your child’s imagination to life. Laura’s ethos is based on positive growth and learning, through a fun and relaxed interaction, with emphasis on exploration and self expression. Storytime is a enchanting adventure of words, story, rhyme and vision, that puts even more fun into learning!

Tuesdays 10.00am – Art Box with Aileen

Tuesdays are arty at the Kids Canteen with guided art and craft session for little ones with a Steiner trained instructor.  Painting, puppet making or creating your own mask – whatever we get up to it will be guaranteed fun with lots of room for creativity and expression.

Wednesdays 11.00am – Tumble Tots

On Wednesdays its time for obstacle course fun!  Kids will have the best fun ever trying out our obstacle course which not only helps them develop physically but will also challenge their every expanding minds.  Children will be encouraged to overcome the challenge of the obstacle course which is not only great fun but also building their confidence.Aileen Curtin

Our three fun-packed mornings are facilitated by Aileen Curtin. Aileen is a mother, artist and Steiner Waldorf qualified early childhood educator. Aileen was one of the founding members of Dublin’s first Steiner kindergarten, Soupstone, and worked as the classroom assistant for 3 years. Aileen has also worked with City Art Squad and is trained as an arts facilitator and hospital artist.

Laura – In her role as Art Facilitator, Laura brings a wealth of creative experience and a diverse set of skills to The Elbowroom. With a BSc in Architecture, Laura has over ten years experience working professionally in the design field and has worked as a qualified animator in the fast moving and exciting world of feature films and seasonal specials for Channel 4 and TG4. She has a passionate interest in child psychological development and is dedicated to broadening her skill set in the areas of psychotherapy and art therapy, with a keen focus on child and adolescent skill acquisition and self expression. Laura is currently actively involved in Kid’s Cafe, the After School programme, Storytime and Art Box and themed kids camps at The elbowroom.

Thursdays 10:30am – New Mums Group

Fran Buckley is hosting a new mum’s group every Thursday where you can get advice and support from other mums before or after your baby arrives. Topics will include feeding support, baby wear, diet & nutrition, osteopathy, physical therapy, paediatric first aid, baby massage, homeopathy and much more. But most of all it’s a chance for you to meet new mums and socialise with your little one.

These guided kids activities are FREE to attend 10.00am and 11.15am, Monday to Wednesday, in Graze Canteen @ the elbowroom. We can’t wait to see you!

Emily McElarney is a mum of three, all of whom were birthed naturally in Dublin maternity hospitals, using Hypnobirthing.     She is a huge advocate of hypnobirthing and of promoting natural birth and of the normalcy of birth. Empowering mums and dads to be are hugely important to Emily and her goal in classes is always to empower couples to make informed choices around the birth of their children.   A qualified yoga teacher, Emily teaches pre-natal yoga and postnatal mum & baby yoga in The elbowroom.   A former journalist, Emily currently contributes to media discussion on birth and normalcy of birth on a regular bases.  She also writes for several publications on birth, birth preparation and infant bonding and engagement.
