Before you reach for that first cup of coffee or tea, why not try move and stretch your body and take a few minutes for yourself. These 5 yoga poses can be done every morning and will leave you feeling energised, focused and ready for the day ahead.

  • Wake up your spine with cat and cow flow. Move mindfully connecting breath and movement. Do it with closed eyes and pay attention to the internal sensations.

  • After completing a few rounds of cat-cow, lie on your stomach and establish a good foundation for cobra pose. Engage the back muscles without squeezing them. In yoga, the back body represents the universal – community – strong sense of community (strength of the back body) allows you to express yourself and serve the world in your unique way (opening your heart in cobra).

  • Transition to downward facing dog and take a moment to find your breath and anchor your energy into the Earth through your hands and feet.

  • When you are ready, move to plank. Align your shoulders with your wrists, engage your core, press your thighs away from the floor, reach forward through the crown of your head and feel confident in your body and mind knowing that you can tackle your daily activities with ease.
