Neuromuscular Activation
After struggling with a long-term hip and shoulder injury Bev Porrino discovered a therapy called Neuromuscular Activation, developed by a South African Physiotherapist, Douglas Heel. The techniques taught her how to rebalance and release her muscles and helped her to reconnect her mind and body. She then trained as a therapist and teamed the concept with her yoga practice and teachings
Neuromuscular Activation helped Bev to understand why her body wasn’t functioning properly and gave her the tools to correct that. Since applying the concept to her daily life she’s stronger, more balanced and most days she moves with ease.
Bev describes herself as a yoga junkie, loving the freedom to create intelligent asana sequences but respecting the ancient lineage and philosophy that her studies have taught her. Her philosophy is simple. Learn to breathe well and the rest will come.
What is be neuromuscular activation?
Neuromuscular Activation is a wonderful combination of Physical & Manual Therapy, Myofascial Release Techniques and Neurolymphatic stimulation. The combined therapies address not only musculoskeletal injuries but will go much deeper into why your body is in pain. It overrides muscle compensations, it rebalances the kinetic chain, promotes better breathing habits, creates space within compressed joints and the spine, and will help you get to the bottom of why you are injured, or indeed why your old injury keeps on recurring.
How does it work?
- Musculoskeletal injuries; back, neck, knee, pelvis & shoulder problems etc.
- Neurological conditions like strokes, Bell’s Palsy, scoliosis, balance issues through ageing.
- Athletic Performance to enhance performance and for injury treatment & prevention.
- Pre and postnatal support.
- Stress Management.
- Posture Correction
What happens on my first visit?
Bev specialises in helping your body overcome muscle compensations which lead to musculoskeletal injuries, pain and stress. After listening to your story and taking a detailed history of your symptoms, Bev will perform a series of muscle tests to establish where your muscle strengths and weaknesses are, this will give you a clear baseline of how your body is performing at that precise moment and will help you to understand why your injury prevails.
- Medical History
- Identify Your Compensation Pattern
- Assess Your Breathing And Oxygen Saturation Levels
- Muscle Testing – Zone By Zone
- Activation & Release Techniques
The initial consultation involves both assessment and treatment. You will be given Self Activation exercises to do on yourself to speed up and enhance your recovery and empower you to take control of your own wellbeing.
Treatment
Neuromuscular Activation reboots your nervous system and improves the power supply to muscles that have become confused and switched off. When you become injured the affected muscles no longer do their own job, this means that smaller muscles have to work harder, eventually, they also break down leading to stress and illness.
