The Importance of Self-Compassion

What is self-compassion?

It can be good to be kind and gentle with oneself when we encounter pain and personal shortcomings, rather than being hurtful, ignoring things or self-criticism. Self compassion is where our negative thoughts and emotions can be observed with an openness. A non-judgemental space within us where we don’t have to suppress or deny our thoughts or feelings. To accept where you are without judgement or negative self-take.

The benefits of self-compassion

  • Self-compassionate individuals can experience better psychological health. Studies have linked it to lower tendencies of self- criticism, depression and anxiety.
  • Self–compassionate people tend to be kind and understanding when met with difficult times in life rather than being critical and judging yourself.
  • Acknowledging that suffering and personal failure is a universal experience can be liberating.
