Our practitioners have combined the best of several independent specialities to create a more effective way of treating your spine.
Here at The elbowroom Clinic, we believe the best way to improve a health issue is by finding out the very root of the problem as a basis for treatment.
Once we have ascertained the root of your discomfort and pain we will recommend treatment with either physiotherapy, osteopathy, Neuromuscular Activation, acupuncture, homeopathy or a combination approach.
Remember, there is no quick fix and long term pain killers and anti-inflammatories can cause their own problems. We aim to help alleviate spinal health problems using combinations of treatments that work on nerve pain, soft tissue damage and postural re-alignment to help you get back to your optimum spinal health.
A good healthy spine is key to a pain free lifestyle.
Spinal health covers a vast area from neuralgia, migraine headaches, fibromyalgia to lower back pain and sciatica. Spinal problems can be the result of a fall or accident but more often than not develop over time as a complex pattern of soft tissue, nerve and postural problems.
You are as old as your spine
Osteopathy– is a way of detecting and treating damaged parts of the body such as muscles, ligaments, nerves and joints. When the body is balanced and efficient, just like a well tuned engine, it will function with the minimum of wear and tear, leaving more energy for living.
Mechanical problems in the structure of the body can not only lead to aches or pains in the joints, tissues, muscles etc, but it can also lead to disturbances in the internal organs and the way they work. Irregular function may impair blood circulation or lymphatic drainage, and disrupt the nerve supply to any part of the body, thus having a detrimental effect on health.
Osteopaths use a wide range of “hands on” techniques to identify, diagnose and treat dysfunction in the body in order to restore the body’s structure and function to a state of balance so that the healing process can be accelerated, thereby improving vitality and general health.
Acupuncture – While it is typically not the first option used to treat neck pain or back pain, an increasing number of patients are using acupuncture for supplemental pain relief at the urging of physicians and other health professionals.
Due to its ability to stimulate the central nervous system, acupuncture has the potential to significantly affect the perception of back and neck pain.
A recent study at the University of Munich confirmed the therapeutic potential of acupuncture. Results were published in the May 2010 issue of the journal Anesthesia & Analgesia, the official journal of the International Anesthesia Research Society.
Physiotherapy – If you experience pain and injury on a regular basis, it may have become acceptable to many in light of a hectic existence. We don’t believe it should be anyone’s constant or natural state. Our aim is to return you to your chosen activities, whether it be at work or at play, stronger and more capable than ever before.
Physiotherapy is extremely effective for soft tissue strains and tears including muscle and joint related injuries. It is also very effective when there is a pinched or irritated nerve causing pain. And what makes us special ? We use manual therapy as our primary treatment plan. This means we are hands on with your soft tissues for the vast majority of your treatment.
At The elbowroom, we specialise in designing a program of exercises tailored to your specific injury or postural problems. Our physiotherapist specialises in clinical exercise therapy and our program is covered by most health insurance policies.
Neuromuscular Activation – Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT) is a treatment that utilises specific massage therapy, trigger point therapy, and home care to eliminate the causes of most neuromuscular pain patterns. This specific and scientific approach to muscular pain relief brings about the balance between the musculo-skeletal system and the nervous system.
NMT enhances the function of joints, muscles and bio-mechanics (movement) and can be part of a comprehensive program, complementing all other health care modalities.
Homeopathy – Homeopathy works by relieving stress and tension that can exacerbate spinal pain and injury.
Tissue salts and organ support remedies are given to strengthen bones and muscles thereby allowing them to heal faster. These remedies can be recommended in conjunction with physical therapy and exercise along with other supplements.
