Meet your lead teacher: Susie Murray
The open day will be led by Susie Murray, an experienced yoga teacher and teacher trainer who has been part of The Elbowroom community for many years.
Susie’s journey into yoga began through dance and movement. After a knee injury interrupted her dance training, she discovered yoga and began exploring how the practice could support both the body and mind.
She went on to complete her initial yoga teacher training at The Elbowroom before continuing her studies in Hatha Yoga in India and completing her 500-hour Advanced Yoga Teacher Training at The Elbowroom.
Her teaching places particular emphasis on breath, alignment, movement and balanced energy, with her background in dance influencing the creative and fluid quality of her Vinyasa teaching.
What will you learn on the 200-hour Foundation Vinyasa Teacher Training?
The training provides a broad foundation in both the practical and philosophical aspects of yoga.
Vinyasa and Restorative Yoga
Vinyasa Flow forms an important part of the training, helping students understand how to connect breath and movement and create intelligent, purposeful sequences.
You will also explore restorative practices, developing an understanding of how yoga can nourish, balance and support the body and mind.
Yoga teaching methodology
Learning how to practise yoga is different from learning how to teach it.
Throughout the training, you’ll develop practical teaching skills including demonstration, observation, assisting, modifying and safely adjusting students.
You’ll learn how to communicate clearly and develop classes that are appropriate for different students and intentions.
Sequencing
A good yoga class is more than a collection of poses.
You’ll explore how to create thoughtful sequences that can challenge, nourish and support students while maintaining the integrity of the practice.
You’ll learn how sequencing can be adapted according to different themes, intentions and levels of experience.
Anatomy and alignment
Understanding the body is an essential part of becoming a safe and effective yoga teacher.
The course explores practical anatomy and the intrinsic structure of the body, helping you understand movement, recognise imbalances and consider appropriate modifications.
Pranayama and meditation
The training also introduces meditation and pranayama, giving you practical tools to incorporate breath and meditation into your own practice and future teaching.
Yoga philosophy
Yoga is much more than physical postures.
You’ll explore the history, philosophy and broader context of yoga, including the foundations of yoga philosophy, the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and ethical principles that can inform both your personal practice and your teaching.
Who is the 200-hour yoga teacher training for?

Students on the teacher training programmes also receive benefits including discounts on classes and workshops, access to the studio for teaching practice during off-peak times, detailed training manuals and opportunities to gain teaching experience.
Is a 200-hour yoga teacher training worth it?
If you’re passionate about yoga and want to develop a deeper understanding of the practice, a 200-hour teacher training can be a transformative experience.
While the qualification can provide a foundation for teaching yoga, the training is also an opportunity to explore your own practice, develop confidence, learn about the body and discover the wider philosophy behind yoga.
You don’t have to know exactly where your yoga journey will take you before starting.
For many students, teacher training becomes as much about personal development and self-discovery as it is about learning to teach.
