A book That Inspired You – Orla Crosse
Lisa: Hi Orla, is there a certain book that has inspired or motivated you to become a better teacher?
One that comes to mind is Movement by Gray Cook. As a Chartered Physiotherapist, I am always looking for new ways to teach people correctly and pain-free movement. Combining yoga, Strength & Conditioning and Physiotherapy, I feel I am giving myself and my students the best chance at having medically sound information. Grey Cook is a well respected Physical Therapist in the USA and I believe in what he has to say.
Orla, an experienced Sports Physiotherapist, is the founder and lead yoga instructor at Performance Yoga. Orla is one of a select few Chartered Physiotherapists registered with the Irish Sports Council to treat Ireland’s Elite and High Performance Athletes. Orla practices Physiotherapy in clinics in Clonmel and Cork and is a current student of Sports and Exercise Medicine in UCC. Orla also teaches functional anatomy to Pilates and Yoga students on accredited teacher trainer courses in Dublin.
“My Sports Medicine, Physiotherapy and Yoga experience offer a unique and unparalleled Yoga experience in Ireland. Performance Yoga classes merge Physiotherapy, Yoga, Sports Specific Movement, Breathing Exercises and Sports Psychology to maximize performance and reduce injury risk. Clients in Performance Yoga classes have the assurance plus all the benefits of a professional Physiotherapist leading the way.”
Orla gained valuable Sports Physiotherapy experience working in the UK, Australia, and Ireland’s reputable Sports Surgery Clinic in Dublin. In Dublin Orla worked alongside many of Ireland’s well known Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine consultants developing and providing expert rehabilitation programs to recover from injury and return to sport.
“I use a wide range of treatment approaches to ensure the highest quality of care for my patients, including manual therapy, dry needling and corrective exercise prescription. If further investigation is required for my patients, my close connection to consultants in Dublin, Cork and Kilkenny ensures patients are fast-tracked to services they require ensuring minimum lost time due to injury.”
