Neuroconnective Yoga
Bev Porrino – 24th & 25th August 2019

This two-day course will help you to understand why we become stuck in our physiology, and as you begin to understand the processes and systems driving your neurology you will learn how to successfully change your patterns.

“Habits Are Learned. So Why Not Learn Good Ones”

As yoga teachers and movement practitioners, we are often approached by our students who are perplexed as to why they don’t seem to get further in their yoga practice. They tell you that they can’t touch their toes or twist as deeply on one side as they can on the other, or maybe they just can’t lift up their legs in navasana. These problems are due to muscle compensations and imbalances in the neurokinetic chains.

What You Will Learn On This Course:

Anatomists over the years have divided the body into 8 systems. We will take a look at how these systems work together and the impact they have on our wellbeing when they don’t.

The Science & Spirit of Breath:

  • How breathing affects every system in the body.
  • Relaxation Response vs Fight /Flight /Freeze
  • The physiology of Apical and abdomino-diaphragmatic breathing.
  • Activate your diaphragm for better breath.
  • Pranayama and the nervous system.

The Neurophysiology of Stretching:

  • Sliding Filament Theory and its impact on flexibility.
  • What happens to muscles when the body doesn’t communicate well?
  • Activated Anatomy
  • Asana focus: Strength and flexibility analysis.Balancing acts:
  • The vestibular and ocular systems and their importance in maintaining balance and equilibrium.
  • Stress: The Relaxation Response vs Fight /Flight /Freeze.
  • The role of the Limbic System.
  • The pain path: Somatosensory system and parasympathetic ganglia

NLP, Yoga & Managing States:

  • Language – Be nice, the body can hear you.
  • Yoga as therapy – why yoga can be pivotal for helping people to overcome stress, anxiety and illness.
  • Changing states.

Subtle Body Anatomy & Energy Medicine
Veronica Larsson – 8th & 9th, 22nd & 23rd August 2020

Course content:

  • Chakra, Vayu, Kosha, Nadi; the Subtle Body Map; their physiology and psychology, how they interrelate and thus affect our experience of our-self and our reality.
  • Asana pertaining to the Subtle Body; Working with an understanding of the Subtle Body Anatomy principles in your own Yoga practice, and in teaching.
  • Adrenal & Nervous System health; Conscious use of Prana & the Breathing Body.
  • The Laws of Nature; Real Time Allowing for Natural Movement of Energy in the Human Body – experiential! – not intellectual
  • Meditation; guided and silent, practicing and developing the ability to focus, listen and refine one’s awareness and intuition.

Schedule:

The four days address the root, sacral, navel and heart chakra and their associated aspects consecutively, and take into account the current state of attendees physiology and psychology; the course follows the path that allows students to most deeply absorb the material in their bodies.

Learning outcome:

The primary objective with this module is to facilitate the participants in being able to be harmoniously and at deep peace in themselves and their own body. In our own BEING, everything, what is needed, becomes obvious. So mostly, we practice this.

This module provides a 2 x 2-day experiential journey through the inner landscape of what is called ‘Subtle Body Anatomy’ in the Yoga tradition. As the name indicates, it is Subtle; not graspable intellectual knowledge, rather, this module is designed to assist you on a journey beyond the current, invisible, limitations of the mind, and into direct contact with the Self – Consciousness – the Life-Creating power that lives and breathes us, and moves through us and is us and creates our human experience, by means of Natural Law.

This module is designed for you to learn through your own body; to give you an embodied foundation to teach from. And because our innate intelligent nature that’s responsible for mental and physical health, Mama Nature, is boss; we learn to listen with humility and respect for the wisdom that already resides in our sacred biology.

This is a vast subject and these 4 days can merely act as an introduction to an experiential body of work indicating, but not controlling, the principles of natural movement of energy in the human body.

A manual to accompanies the practical and very often non-intellectual work, and outlines the main aspects of the Subtle Body, and that you can refer back to as you continue to explore the work over the years.

This module is a soul journey. You cannot travel to the realms of Spirit from a level of grasping mind. Aligning to the Laws of Nature, the power that created you, informs you. This is not about asana, or doing. It is an attuning of the instrument that is your body to the wisdom of the universe that already knows how to play in harmony and be of service in each moment.
